The only problem when having a very large collection of movies is that you have to efficiently manage it. It can prove to be a bit of a hassle to keep track of all the movies in your collection, especially since it constantly becomes larger and larger, and it can prove to be a bit of a bother to keep track of all the movies you’ve loaned to your friends. The DVD Chief application is here to do away with all the hassle – it is an easy to use application for cataloging your movie collection, getting info about movies from the web, rating the movies in your collection, and managing loans.

16.6MB is the size of the DVD Chief installation file. A simple setup wizard will show up when you run the aforementioned file. Click through it and you will easily and rapidly have the application installed on your system (XP, 2003, Vista, and Windows 7 are supported). Please note that once the installation process completes, your default browser will launch and you will be directed to DVD Chief’s official website.

If you’re familiar with Microsoft’s ribbon interface, you will immediately feel at home using DVD Chief, which also uses a ribbon interface. Click Home, Lists, View, or Help from the top of the interface and you will be presented with various options related to the functionality of DVD Chief. And speaking about the interface, it must be mentioned that you can change the application’s looks using skins. There are several skins to choose from.

To help you get started, DVD Chief comes with data on two movies (Inception and Wall-E) and one TV Show (Lost). They’re all displayed in the Movies section to the left. By default the grid view is enabled; you can change it to cards view or a virtual movie shelf view (choose between a wooden or a silver shelf). When you select a movie from the virtual shelf, info about it will be displayed in the large window to the right. Double click the movie and you will be presented with a menu that shows you just how much info about a movie can be fed into DVD Chief. And not just movies, a lot of info about actors can be fed into DVD Chief as well; just click the Persons button from the bottom right hand corner to see a pre-populated list of actors.

You could enter all the info you want about a movie by yourself, if you want to take this route. But if you want to do things a bit faster and a bit easier, you can let the application do this automatically for you. The application can download info about the movie you specify from the web. Whatever DVD Chief does not find on the web, you can add it manually at your convenience.

It can be annoying to lose a movie because you lent it to a friend and can’t remember which one. Not only does DVD Chief let you easily add info on any move you want, not only does it let you quickly view your collection, it also lets you keep track of the movies you’ve lent to others.

All the wonderful functionality offered by DVD Chief comes free of charge.

It is a pleasure to use DVD Chief. This handy, efficient, and user friendly tool is a must for anyone who wants a proper way of managing an ever increasing collection of movies.

Pros

Comes with a sample database to help you get started; info on two movies and a TV show, as well as info on the cast of the movies and TV show are included into the application. Manually add info about a movie, or let DVD Chief get it off the web for you. There’s a lot of info you can add about a movie. DVD Chief provides an efficient means of viewing and managing your collection. DVD Chief is freeware.

Cons

Your default browser launches and you’re directed to the DVD Chief website once the installation process completes.
